RAS Human Resources Consulting Practice

Purpose of our Practice: The human resources function in higher education is facing increasingly complex issues and challenges, and the challenges are across many dimensions–regulations, workforce changes, financial pressures, increasing need for institutional effectiveness, risk management, and more. It is our mission to support institutional leaders who desire to assess and improve HR, and to support HR leaders to meet the challenges.

Scope of our Practice: We work across essentially every area of strategic and operational HR–leadership development, coaching, workforce planning, infusing DEI priorities, technology and business processes, policies & procedures, compensation, benefits, and more.

We can step in where needed for projects that are outside the capacity of the HR office; we can define a plan to elevate and optimize the HR function overall; we can serve as leadership consultants for cabinet members and middle managers; and, we can contribute in every way in between.

Talent of our Practice: Our approach is unique in the higher education consulting marketplace, in that all of our consultants are accomplished HR leaders with a full career of experience. The depth of our experience provides insight that cannot be matched any other way. Our experience ranges from community colleges to top research institutions and in most regions across the country. In fact, our consultants continue to serve in interim Chief HR Officer roles from time to time to ensure we maintain our deep inside knowledge.

Given that we like to avoid pre-defined processes and focus on custom solutions, our projects are extremely flexible. We can travel on-site, we can work remotely, we can arrange for consultants to work full-time or part-time on projects. Our goal is to provide the very best talent for the best client outcomes, with a process that is optimal for all.

Methodology of our Practice: Our proposals are custom-designed for the unique nuances of your institution and the outcomes you are seeking, rather than operating with “canned” consulting approaches. We leverage internal resources where possible, work collaboratively, and ensure that we accomplish full knowledge transfer. We not only achieve the deliverables, but leave the institution with greater capacity than before.

There is no cost for an initial discussion of your needs and potential ideas for us to serve.

Client Comments & Scenarios:

  • A recent institution noted that they received several proposals for their project but gave greater weight to our proposal due to the strength of the Registry brand. We love hearing that!
  • We completed an assessment of the HR function for a university-who was so impressed with the HR systems analysis that we were asked to provide recommendations for their overall enterprise system.
  • The placement of an interim CHRO at an institution has led to requests for HR consulting support to accelerate the advancement of the function
  • HR consulting projects have led to requests for an interim CHRO to more fully develop the HR function
  • Clients have noted that our consultants have high credibility for recommendations, given that we are all highly experienced CHRO/consultants rather than only having consultant experience

“If you’re considering any HR project need or strategic need, please contact us. We would be excited to arrange a conversation with me or one of our CHRO consultants to discuss. Our initial discussions are at no cost and almost always help refine the outcomes and the project, whether you use our services or not. Our only mission is to support organizational effectiveness in higher education through HR leadership, strategy and delivery.”
