Building Connections, Strengthening Community: The Registry Affinity Groups
This fall marks an exciting new chapter for The Registry as we introduce Affinity Group meetings; an initiative designed to cultivate connection, collaboration, and community among our members. Organized by function, these gatherings offer a dedicated space for members to engage with like-minded peers to foster meaningful professional relationships, and gain fresh insights relevant to their roles.
So far, we’ve hosted successful meetings for both CHROs (Chief Human Resources Officers) and CFOs (Chief Financial Officers), with promising engagement and enthusiasm from participants. Each session opens with introductions, providing members with an opportunity to share their professional backgrounds, current assignments, and areas of interest. From there, conversations flow naturally into timely topics, shared challenges, and collaborative opportunities.
The CHRO Affinity Group, led by Senior Consultant Larry Lewellen, highlighted just how impactful these meetings can be. Members expressed a strong desire to build a ‘Community of Practice’ which would be a trusted circle where they can exchange peer advice, stay informed on evolving HR trends, and even explore continuing education opportunities. Key themes included:
- Navigating the unique nature of interim assignments, where institutions may expect daily administration paired with miracle-level results.
- Addressing “scope creep” and developing clearer frameworks to define and maintain priorities with institutions.
- Exploring how Registry consultants can differentiate their services from traditional firms by tailoring support to institutional needs rather than offering one-size-fits-all solutions.
- Exploring AI’s impact on higher education in general and HR in particular.
Perhaps most importantly, the group emphasized how vital it is to stay connected, especially after stepping away from full-time employment. As one participant noted, “Networking gets more challenging once you leave your permanent role. This group helps fill that gap.”
In tandem, the CFO Affinity Group echoed many of these sentiments, reinforcing the value of peer support and shared experiences across leadership roles. These meetings are already demonstrating the power of connection, and we’re just getting started.
As we continue to expand this initiative, our goal is clear: to empower our members with the resources, relationships, and opportunities they need to thrive both in their current assignments and beyond. We believe these Affinity Groups will not only strengthen our community but also serve as a springboard for new ideas, partnerships, and business growth.
Keep an eye out for future Affinity Group sessions, and if you haven’t yet had a chance to participate, we encourage you to join in. Your voice, experience, and perspective are what make this community truly exceptional.
