Since reintroducing the Registry Chronicles newsletter in 2018, we have been privileged to publish more than 15 issues, consisting of nearly 100 articles representing more than 80 unique authors and contributors. The primary focus of our newsletter revolves around interim leadership in higher education. Indeed, many of the articles we publish draw from the interim experiences and best practices cultivated by our Members, Staff, and Senior Consultants alike. But we also value articles that speak to the broader context in which our Members serve, leaning in to the biological, social, and political forces that shape our higher education landscape. Thus, amidst articles on strategies to be a more effective interim leader, our authors also discuss topics like the continuing challenges sustained by the pandemic, the importance of understanding movements such as Black Lives Matter, and how shifting political tides may influence the priorities an institution sets for an interim.

As we look ahead to the future of the Registry Chronicles, we maintain our goal to involve more of our Members in writing for the newsletter. Our Registry membership is comprised of seasoned administrators from all facets of higher education: Community Colleges, Four-Year Colleges, R1 Universities, Seminaries, and others. These institutions include HSIs, MSIs, HBCUs, religiously affiliated, secular, private, and public organizations alike. We believe that the Registry Chronicles is of greatest value to our membership when our authors and the articles they write represent a complementary panoply of experiences and perspectives.

To date, nearly half of our contributing authors are women and nearly one-quarter are people of color. In this regard, we know we can do a better job. We also know that we need to do more to feature articles that represent greater institutional diversity, especially in the areas of HSIs, MSIs, and community colleges, which represent a greater diversity of our higher education student, faculty, and staff populations.

We are grateful to the many Members of The Registry who have contributed to our newsletter’s success, and we look forward to engaging with many more Members to build on this initial success. How Can I Get Involved?

If you would like to contribute to the newsletter, please e-mail Galen Hench to express your interest. Within the scope of our newsletter, we seek to be as inclusive as possible about the article topics that are featured. If you would like to write but do not necessarily have a topic in mind then we would still like to hear from you. In some cases, we will approach prospective writers with a timely request such as book reviews

Is There A Big Time Commitment?

No, there is not a big time commitment. Our articles are often between 500 to 700 words, which we find draws the most readership. We are pleased to work with authors to edit their pieces as transparently and efficiently as possible.

Must the Articles Be Original?

Except in rare circumstances, we will only consider articles that have not appeared in other publications due to copyright. We are happy to discuss this on a case-by-case basis to learn if there may be an alternative article that the Member can write on a related topic.
