Interim Spotlight: Christine Meola

Interim Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Alumni Relations
Becker College (Worcester, Massachusetts)
June 2017 – June 2019

What has been the biggest challenge transitioning into this interim role?

The biggest challenge transitioning into this interim role was in joining a department that was in need of new energy and fresh thinking. In this sense, interims can be both change agents as well as effective managers.

What is the greatest lesson you’ve learned from this assignment thus far?

There is freedom in serving as an interim. You are able to contribute and advise and critique in a way that traditional employees cannot.

What is the single most important piece of advice you can offer to someone transitioning into an interim role?

My single piece of advice to prospective interims is to approach the role with the same passion and enthusiasm as if you were a full time employee. Being an Interim affords you freedom of expression, so use it wisely and enjoy the journey!
